It’s no secret that everyone likes to have a littttle extra cash. That’s why having a side hustle could change the game for you, and in a valuable way. According to PR Newswire, “…95% of women with side hustles find the work fulfilling.” In other words, having a side hustle can provide some sense of self confidence and gratification. Let’s be real, earning money has the ability to make one feel accomplished and capable. Subsidiary employment just might increase your cash flow and allow you to loosen up those purse strings.
If you’re a full-time student or are already working a primary job, there is a way for you to make some more dough - and the best part is, you get to decide on how you want to do that! You can be your own boss, manage your own hours, and choose just exactly what you want to do with your free time to make some $$$. With quarantine in full swing, it can be tough to keep busy. Now is the best time to brainstorm some ideas on how you can put your skills to use and make a profit off of your talents, passions, etc. So girls, listen up - if you’re struggling with a busy school schedule, or the process of obtaining a job, take a look at some of the options we’ve provided below.
Art - If you are passionate about art, selling your work is a great way to earn money. Etsy is a great site to do this. It could be stickers, handmade jewelry, or even paintings that could supply you with supplementary income. Get your creativity flowing!
Nail Care - Invest in some decent quality nail polish and get to painting! Reach out to friends and classmates to build your clientele. Getting your nails done can be pricey and time consuming--which isn’t appealing to most college students. Convenience is important. Put together a mobile nail kit and offer to travel to your clients. Charge a cheaper fee and you’re guaranteed to make a steady return on your investment.
Season cleaning - I cannot express enough how satisfying it is to clean out your room and sell whatever you don’t need. Not only are you clearing out all of the clutter, but you’re also making a profit from it! It’s a win-win. Sell your belongings on Amazon, eBay, Poshmark, DePop, or a local resale shop.
Music - If you play an instrument, offer music lessons! You could also offer to make specific playlists for people and charge a low price.
Laundry - Charge $5-$10 to do someone’s laundry. You’d be surprised at how much of a hot commodity this side business could turn into. Doing laundry requires time and patience, which many college students might tend to lack. So, pick up their dirty laundry, wash, dry, fold and put their clothes away!
Chauffeur - Say an individual needs a ride to a meeting, a class, a social event, but doesn’t have a car… offer to give them a ride and charge some money!
Organize - If you’re a neat freak, or have the slightest bit of organizational OCD, this might just be the perfect job for you! Many individuals, especially college kids, absolutely l o a t h e the act of cleaning their room, folding their clothes, arranging their desk, and so on. So, take it upon yourself to help others and impose a wage.
Photography - From a photoshoot with friends, to engagement photos, to graduation pictures, there is always an opportunity to capture special moments. Use your photography skills to do that!
Helping out others - Imagine how appreciative your neighbors would be if you offered to run errands for them. Something as simple as grabbing groceries or going to the drug store could help one out immensely.
Babysitting - Nannying is a common option for young hustlers. Summer is prime time for babysitters. With parents still working and kids out of school, there is bound to be a family searching for someone to help them out. Plus, the hours can be flexible and no taxes are taken out of your paycheck.
These are just a few examples of different ways you could put your free time to use to earn some extra money and increase your cash flow. Point is, pursuing a side hustle will benefit you financially, and teach you the basic lessons of running a business. You may need a side job to pay for the necessities in life, or you may just want the ability to splurge a little, guilt-free. So, get to work!
